Only the Martin-branded Gotohs suffer from washer-rattle, Rich, for the simple reason that washers are not supplied with either Grovers or Waverlies: the Martin washers are removed with their bushings and the replacement bushings fitted without them. Some folks here have also said that the Waverly buttons can be a little rougher around the edges than the Grover s.

Grovers being made overseas and at a higher volume so cost a lot less. The Grover tuners are about 90% as good as the Waverlys. I found that I preferred 16:1 over 18:1, it took too much turning to make adjustments with the Grovers. The Waverly's have a better feel to the tuning when installed correctly 2007-05-18 I prefer Grover over the Martin tuners because they have more history with Martin and in my oppinion they are a little more heavy duty. Again just my oppinion. Personal preference is everything with such fine equipment, you can't go wrong with either.

Rich Robinson of The Magpie Salute and founding member of The Black Crowes asked Erick Coleman to install tuners that match this Gibson's ES-335 original fac

2008-04-28 OTOH, some replacement tuners, IMO, would add value (for example Waverlies would be more valuable I think than closed Gotohs). Tastes also change over time - back in the day, closed Grovers were the tuners to have, and open tuners were considered second rate. Now I think open back Waverlies are the most prized, certainly the most costly. I think Waverlies are more expensive due to being made in the US and also since there is isn't really any competition as far as their fancier tuners go Stew-Mac can pretty much charge a higher price. Grovers being made overseas and at a higher volume so cost a lot less.

5 Jun 2017 In fact, I used an old set of Kluson tuners salvaged from a Gibson I had then, if looking for a high quality tuner, the choice was either Grover or

Also the tall posts are ugly and I always had I use these tuners when they're a direct fit for old Martins that used Kluson tuners (Waverlys have a slightly different footprint). They come in oval or scalloped buttons.
